The Austin Transportation Department has released the first results of the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan's work to identify the highest priority transportation projects for the City of Austin. This ranking divides the more than 3000 potential projects collected by the ASMP into "A," "B" and "C" categories, with the "A" list — 45 projects with an estimated total cost of between $2 billion and $3 billion — as the highest priority.
The prioritized list is being shared with the City Council, city staff, the Council-appointed Citizens Task Force, and the public as part of the ASMP's work to help Austin make the best decisions regarding its future investments in transportation. While the city is considering a potential 2010 transportation bond election, the ASMP's "A" list of projects does not represent a proposal for a bond package. Based on the ASMP's work as well as other factors, a proposed 2010 package is scheduled to be prepared by the City Manager for City Council and community consideration later this month.
